Media and Communications
In the age of information and the Internet, media and communications are an indispensable part of our lives. This module involves, amongst others, study tours of major media organisations such as the BBC (British Broadcasting Company). Most site visits will take place in London, Cambridge and Oxford. You will see how the media industry actually operates in these major UK cities and then relate it to your own context. The module offers a wide range of learning opportunities from observing the media in action to engaging in personal and professional conversations with practitioners both in the public and private sectors.
This course will enable you to understand the structure and operation of the electronic and digital media industry, and also raise your awareness of political correctness in presenting news and the link between power and culture in newspapers, radio and TV. You will be inspired by stimulating academic lectures, subject-specific seminars and practical workshops that will take place in well-known media and communications departments at some of the UK’s most prestigious universities.
